Too clever for my own good...

Since we got 2 dogs, going on vacations now require some extra steps.  Here is a short story about one of those trips and what can happen when the best of intensions fall short!

We hired a dog sitter to come to our home and check on our 2 dogs while we were on vacation.  This is the first time we had done this.  Usually, we would take the dog(s) to the sitters house but since we had just adopted a new dog we felt that it would be best for someone to come to our home instead of Gizmo (the new one) having to get use to another "new" place.  Well, before leaving for our vacation I made sure everything was takin' care of.  I made enough food, set up the doggy cams and locked our file cabinet.  Well, I decided to hide the key to the file cabinet someplace she would not look or find, if she was so inclined to look.  Well, I hid the damn key so good, I couldn't find it!  So for the past 4 months I have not been able to get into the file cabinet. I absolutely hated when a situation came up that required me to look in the file cabinet...tax questions, dog papers, household receipts...cause my husband loved to remind me how stupid that was and I'm so silly for being so paranoid...this, coming from the guy that has been so against anyone other than friends and family coming into our house at all!!!

Well, after 4 long months I finally found the key!  YAY!!!

I can tell you this...I will not make that mistake again...the next time I'll find a spot that I WILL remember.

Also, one night during the vacation I was checking on them and couldn't figure out why Gizmo would not come in the house.   Then I could hear a beeping coming from inside the house and finally figured out that it was the smoke detector beeping!  Gizmo is so skittish of sounds that he was absolutely petrified and would not go back in the house.  I had to call the sitter and interrupt her movie night to go back to the house and pull out the battery!  Lesson learned!  Change all the smoke detector batteries before leaving!!!  Poor Giz!
